What is CT Enterography?
CT, also called CAT scan or Computed Tomography, is a type of diagnostic test that uses sophisticated X-ray equipment to help produce detailed images of the small intestine, abdomen and pelvis that can help locate and identify causes of bowel inflammation, bleeding, obstruction and other abnormalities.

Why would my physician recommend CT Enterography?
Your physician may recommend CT Enterography to help diagnose and manage Crohn's Disease or other Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. It may also be used to determine the source of bowel obstruction, bleeding or other abnormalities.
What should I expect during CT Enterography?
If this is your first CT, you may not be sure what to expect. Not to worry, we are here to guide you every step of the way. Before the procedure you will be asked to come in an hour and a half early to drink several glasses of a solution mixed with a contrast agent in order to fill the small intestine and expand the bowel—allowing any abnormalities to be clearly seen. During the procedure, you will lie on the padded scanner table. You will be asked to hold very still and hold your breath as the table moves through the CT scanner, capturing images. You may hear a humming sound from inside the machine. A contrast agent may be given to you orally and intravenously for the exam. The Technologist will be in the adjacent room operating the scanner, but will be able to hear and communicate with you throughout the exam. The entire test takes just a few minutes.
How is a CT scan different from an X-ray?
Like Traditional X-rays, a CT scan produces multiple images of the inside of your body. However, unlike Traditional X-rays, the images generated during a CT scan are cross-sectional and can be reformatted in multiple planes and turned into a three-dimensional image. CT images typically provide greater detail than Traditional X-rays, particularly of the internal organs, soft tissues and blood vessels.
